Pakistan is one of the significant source of the colored stones producer and supplier catering to the need of jewelry industry the world over. Minerals and Gem stones of Pakistan are located in the three legendry mountain ranges of Himalayas, Hindukush and Karakoram, which are now forming the northern part of Pakistan including N.W.F.P. Additionally proximity to other Gem bearing areas provides further trading opportunity in this field.
The All Pakistan Commercial Exporters Association of Rough & Unpolished Precious & Semi Precious Stones (APCEA) and Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Govt. of Pakistan, established GEMS & GEMMOLOGICAL INSTITUTE OF PAKISTAN AT PESHAWAR in October 2001 to provide basic education in Gemmology in combination with Gem cutting under one roof.
